There are so many things I can say about what my mother means to me and I say them every year but as always, though you may not know my mother, you know her through me and how I carry myself. I hope I honor her by my behavior. To all my friends who are mothers yourselves, all of you, you make me proud at the many obstacles and struggles you’ve overcome and at the amazing, brilliant children you’re all in the process of raising. And finally, to the mothers of my friends, who’ve welcomed me into their homes every holiday, went suit shopping with me when I’d lost everything moving to NY, comforted me when my grandfather passed, shepherded me through college, whisked me off to Jamaica, and finally, raised some of the finest men and women I’ve ever known, I thank you and my mom thanks you as well. Happy Mother’s Day!
