Overview
Carolina Online was an ambitious virtual undergraduate platform launched by the University of South Carolina, offering more than 65 degree programs online with the goal of making higher education more accessible. Backed by the university's president and provost — and driven by an impending Major League Soccer partnership — we were challenged to compress a year's worth of design and development work into just two months. In that window, we built a full identity system aligned with university branding guidelines, refining nearly 20 logo iterations before landing on a final system with three versions for different applications. We designed the website and its information architecture from the ground up, including a search system, content strategy, and program hierarchy, while working with a compliance officer to meet federal accessibility standards. Phase 2 extended the brand to UofSC's satellite schools, adapting logos and site designs to each college's visual identity, and we produced print and digital ads, MLS stadium videos, radio copy, and a welcome package for incoming online students. (WordPress multisite development was handled by Cyberwoven throughout.)
Though Carolina Online eventually wound down after two years, the work made a lasting impact. The MLS partnership put our logo and ads in front of millions during televised matches, professional athletes enrolled in the program, and Carolina Online's collaboration with Paretta Autosport brought meaningful visibility to diversity and female leadership in motorsport — including the pride of seeing our logo on a racecar at the Indianapolis 500. Carolina Online remains one of our most gratifying projects, a testament to what focused determination and strong collaboration can achieve under pressure.
