I’m Gonna Live Forever

“You want fame?…Well, fame costs. And the price is sweat.”

God, this movie has brought tears to my eyes…like 4 or 5 times, all the way through…I can’t believe, with a degree in fine arts, years and years and years of artistic training, I have never seen this movie…I have to admit it, AA style…”Hello, my name is Anthony, and I never saw ‘Fame’.” It was the secret I hid away from my artist friends…other people hide drug addictions, me, I hide that. Still, my goodness, I can’t believe I never saw this damn film before tonight…it started at 2:45 AM, its 4:54 AM now, Coco is singing during the big show number the school is doing…Ralph and Montgomery just made up, after Ralph and Dominique (nee Doris) had their fight and Ralph bombed…

From the audition process, which I remember from the various schools for the arts which I attended from 7th grade on, until the end, which just came up, man this movie hit me hard…I have to rethink a lot of things right now…but I think its good this movie had me writing, and thinking about creating, from the opening credits…I gotta get my mind right…I have finals in 2 and a half weeks…

I have to be at work in 5 hours. Jeez…I am cuttin’ it close…

Let me add, though, that when Leroy offered the English teacher his hankerchief…well, first of all, do kids from the hood carry around hankerchiefs? In the late seventies early eighties? Well, despite that, tears welled up…I wasn’t crying, but there was significant welling…

Another aside, is there such a dearth of black movies that Black Starz has to follow up “Fame” with “The Mighty Pawns,” which, in the first 5 minutes or so, seems to be notable only as what must assuredly be the most embarrassing entry on the Alfonso Ribiero filmography…such a step down from Silver Spoons, its not even funny. Alfonso (‘Frank’ here, with a fine small frolet sprouting forth from his young pate) has caught himself in “D Class” which seems to be a nice way of saying Dummy Class, or Detention Class, or something to that effect. I am not going into any more detail as to the plot, or lack thereof, just trust that its about a white savior, and bad “Bigger Thomas” negros, and chess. Let’s leave it at that. I would go in depth about it, but let’s face it, this movie is not worth the energy necessary to type it.

Goodnight. I have more to write, but tomorrow, after all, is another day, if I may bastardize Scarlett O’Hara’s eloquence…ciao.
